Bootstrap was originally called Twitter Blueprint, since it was created by Twitter. This is a great example of how a tool being developed for internal use is ultimately in demand worldwide. The founders of Bootstrap are Twitter employees Mark Otto and Jacob Thornton – as they developed, realized that the project could be more than just one of the company's internal tools. After the project was laid out in open access, many developers began to use it.
